Husseys of Exeter

Husseys has been auctioning in Exeter since 1777, which makes it one of the oldest firms of auctioneers still trading in Britain. It covers the South West peninsula from a single auction centre on Tedburn Road, and it makes a point of being independent of the large corporate groups that dominate UK vehicle remarketing.

How the bidding works

Both the car and commercial sales currently run online only — the room is not used for bidding, which is worth knowing if you were planning to attend. Car sales are held on selected Wednesdays at noon. The site carries live "bid now" links to whichever sale is open.

What to check before you bid

Collections and drop-offs are by appointment only, and the house asks you to phone ahead — and to check a forklift driver is available if your lot needs one. That last detail is the practical difference between a plant purchase that goes smoothly and a wasted journey. Buyer's costs are set out in the buying pages; the auction centre is well outside Exeter itself, so allow travel time for viewing.
