Auctions in Norway

Norway's auction market divides cleanly between the commercial and the official. On the commercial side, general auction platforms move vehicles, machinery, tools and household goods, often with a strong regional following — Norwegian buyers are used to buying second-hand online and the platforms reflect that. On the official side, enforcement and customs sales dispose of seized and abandoned property.

Vehicles are the category most likely to interest buyers outside Norway. High registration taxes make the Norwegian used-car market behave differently from the rest of Europe, and older cars are often maintained longer than they would be elsewhere. Vans and light commercials appear regularly from company fleets.

Two practical points. First, Norway is outside the EU customs union, so buying from Norway into the EU means an export declaration and import duties at the other end — factor that in before comparing prices with German or Dutch lots. Second, distances are considerable and collection is usually the buyer's problem, so confirm exactly where the lot sits before bidding, not after.
