Auctions in Romania

Romania's auction supply comes from three directions, and it helps to know which one you are looking at. The tax authority runs electronic auctions of assets seized for unpaid taxes. A separate national agency manages and sells property confiscated in criminal cases — vehicles, equipment and occasionally more unusual assets. And the banks, particularly through their leasing arms, dispose of repossessed and returned vehicles directly.

Vehicles dominate all three channels. Repossessed cars and vans from leasing portfolios are the most consistent supply and generally the best documented, since the finance company has service records and a clear ownership chain. Enforcement and confiscation lots are less predictable and are sold strictly as-is.

Practical notes: the portals are Romanian-language and registration usually requires a Romanian tax identification number, so buyers from outside the country often work through a local intermediary. Deposits are commonly required before bidding and are forfeited if you win and fail to pay. Check whether the seller can supply the vehicle's registration documents before you bid — on confiscation lots this is not always straightforward.
