Ayvens is what became of ALD Automotive and LeasePlan after they merged, and Carmarket is where the group sells the cars coming off its own lease contracts. That makes it a different animal from an open marketplace: the seller is the fleet owner, the maintenance history is the group's own, and the stock is what a large European leasing book produces — three to six years old, sometimes younger.

How the bidding works

Sales are grouped by country — Belgium, Finland, Italy and others each running their own batches of thirty to a hundred and thirty vehicles — and each carries a numbered sale ID and a closing time. The platform states it covers forty countries.

This is a dealer and trade platform, built around registered motor businesses rather than private buyers. Which country a sale sits in determines where the car is and therefore what the transport and VAT position looks like — a Finnish sale and an Italian one are very different logistics.
