Desvoveilingen BV runs timed online auctions out of West Flanders in Belgium, working from Diksmuide, Oostkamp and Bruges. Stock arrives from two directions: insolvency and closure work for trustees, bailiffs, notaries and banks, and retailers offloading returns and overstock. Live since 2017, it changed hands in 2023 and moved to its current bidding platform in 2024; a pop-up outlet on the Blankenbergse steenweg in Bruges also sells overstock over the counter on Saturdays.

What you can buy

• Retail returns and overstock: "Toplots" sales running to several hundred lots — airfryers, coffee machines, steam irons, robot vacuums and mini fridges, with Ninja, Tefal, Philips, Rowenta, Cecotec and Xiaomi among the names that keep coming back. Each lot is graded from "unopened" down to "intensively used", and returns are checked for basic function before they go up.
• Tools and builders' merchant stock: Festool showroom models, Einhell cordless machines, and a full warehouse clearance from a builders' merchant — ventilation units, PVC ducting and fittings, Hikoki and Sympafix power tools.
• Furniture and interiors: upholstered dining chairs and teddy sofas still in unopened packaging, an artificial olive tree, and flat-packed vidaXL returns that arrive boxed and unassembled.
• Catering kit: plates, tableware and horeca equipment cleared out of a gastronomic banqueting hall, Villeroy & Boch and Cosy & Trendy among it, alongside tall candelabra, heavy copper pots and a Retigo steamer.
• Toys and seasonal stock: Sluban and GeoSmart construction sets, Play-Doh, licensed figures, complete promotional sets of sunglasses, reading glasses and bracelets with their shop display units, plus back-to-school and Christmas sales.
• Rolling stock and vehicles: occasional single-car lots, such as a 2019 BMW 530e iPerformance and a 1977 Lincoln Continental.
• Public sector clearances: the town of Oudenburg is emptying its municipal services in a sale currently on the calendar.

How the bidding works

You register with a unique email address and mobile number, confirm an SMS code and wait for approval; company accounts are checked against VIES. Private and business buying need separate accounts, and some lots cannot legally go to consumers, so a VAT number is the only way in on those. Proxy bidding is supported, bids are binding once confirmed, and a bid in the final five minutes pushes that lot's closing time back by five minutes. A sale becomes firm only on definitive award, signed off after the close by the auctioneer, trustee, notary or bailiff; sellers may set a reserve. Payment is by bank transfer, due immediately on award against a deadline named in each sale, and the original invoice is handed over at collection. Viewing and collection both happen where the lot stands, in a fixed slot that is often only an hour long, never at the head office.

What to check before you bid

The terms put auction costs at 17% of the hammer price unless the lot says otherwise, and in practice every recent sale has advertised 11%, with the odd single car at 0%; VAT is added to both the bid and that premium, so budget well above your bid figure. Lots sell as they stand, with visible and hidden defects, no guarantee and no withdrawal right on second-hand, returned or court-ordered goods; descriptions, mileage and running hours are indicative. Buyers with a valid foreign company and VAT number can buy VAT-free, but only if payment leaves that company's foreign bank account and the CMR paperwork matches the invoice address; non-EU export buyers pay VAT first and are refunded within 14 days once a valid export document is filed. Staff will not load or dismantle, so bring trolleys and tools; home delivery is an optional third-party service through SiBo Drive, quoted from EUR 11.95 including VAT for a banana-box parcel up to 20 kg (EUR 14.96 in the sale running now) and dropped altogether on bulky or heavy lots. Late payment carries 12% annual interest plus a 15% penalty with a EUR 75 floor, and while the interface switches to English, the lot descriptions and the only legally binding version of the terms are Dutch.
