How the bidding works

Floor auctions run over consecutive days with printed catalogues, live online bidding and written bids accepted in advance. The eLive series is online-only and works on a different, lighter fee basis. Lots are described with reference to the standard numismatic catalogues, which is how you compare an offer here with one somewhere else.

What to check before you bid

Grade is the price in this market: two coins with the same catalogue number and different grades are not the same lot. Read the grading in the description rather than judging from the photograph, and note that European houses grade more conservatively than some overseas markets. Check whether a lot is offered with a third-party certification — for higher-value coins that changes both the price and the resale.
