Memax runs online auctions of machinery, tools, warehouse supplies and metal, operating from Ingenieur van Meelweg 11 in Vessem in North Brabant. The sales are typically tied to a specific event — a workshop closing, a business ending — and catalogued as such, so a single auction is often the coherent contents of one place rather than a mixed consignment.

How the bidding works

Each auction publishes four dates and they are all worth noting: the opening, the closing (lots close progressively from a stated evening hour), the viewing day (kijkdag) and the collection day (afhaaldag). When we checked, one closure sale opened on 26 August, closed from 19:00 on 8 September, held viewing on 4 September and collection on 11 September — a rhythm that gives you a genuine chance to inspect before bidding, which is more than many online-only sales offer. Some auctions are flagged as margin sales (MARGE veiling), a Dutch VAT scheme that changes how tax is handled.

What to check before you bid

The margin-scheme flag matters for business buyers: on a MARGE lot you cannot reclaim VAT, so the effective price differs from a normal auction even at the same hammer figure. Check it before calculating your bid. The viewing and collection location is stated per auction and is not always Vessem — a closure sale usually happens at the closing business's own address. Attend the kijkdag if the lot is worth the trip; machinery bought unseen from photographs is where most auction regret starts.
