MNV — Magyar Nemzeti Vagyonkezelő — is Hungary's national asset manager, and this is the system through which it sells what the state owns and no longer needs. It runs three parallel catalogues: real estate, movables and company shareholdings, each with its own advertised, biddable and expired sections.
What you can buy
- Property — over a hundred lots advertised at the time of checking.
- Vehicles and parts, which dominate the movables list: a VW Caddy, a Škoda Octavia estate, a Toyota Hilux, a 1990s Škoda Favorit.
- Fine art — paintings, antiques and objets.
- Jewellery and precious metals.
- Furniture, machinery, instruments, books, porcelain and IT equipment.
- Company shareholdings.
How the bidding works
Every lot publishes four dates and two figures, and they are the whole of what you need: the opening price (kikiáltási ár), the deposit (biztosíték összege, usually around 10%), the deadline for paying that deposit, and the exact start and end of the bidding window. Deposits must be paid days before bidding opens — miss that date and the lot is closed to you regardless of what you are willing to pay.
What to check before you bid
The deposit deadline is the trap: it typically falls four or five days before bidding starts, and the system will not let you in late. Lot descriptions are in Hungarian and the interface renders with legacy character encoding in places. State property is sold as it stands; for vehicles the registration number is given but condition is not warranted.
