Germany's public sector does not dispose of its vehicles through one channel, and this is a good illustration of why that matters. The Oberfinanzdirektion of North Rhine-Westphalia — the regional tax administration of Germany's most populous state — publishes its own Versteigerungsliste for the vehicles it is selling, separately from federal surplus at VEBEG, customs seizures at Zoll-Auktion and judicial sales at Justiz-Auktion.

How the bidding works

The list is exactly that — a published schedule of vehicles going to auction, maintained by the OFD as part of its Versteigerung von Kraftfahrzeugen function. It states what is being sold and by which office, and the individual notice carries the viewing arrangements and the sale format. This is a state authority publishing a list, not a bidding platform with an account system.

What to check before you bid

Because each sale is run by the office holding the vehicle, the terms are local and the notice is the authority. Ex-fleet vehicles from a state administration are usually well documented on servicing but heavily used; the viewing is where that gets settled.
